February 8, 2008
It was a busy year for the Milford
Athletics Fundraising Committee in 2007. We’ve been a
very active group since Milford voters supported a warrant
article last March that included the renovations to our
athletic fields and the construction of track and field
facilities. We have taken our responsibility to raise
$200,000 in private dollars very seriously. We held a major
fundraising event every month last year from June on with
the exception of July. We tried to appeal to a broad
spectrum of people where interests were concerned. All who
have participated, volunteered, and contributed have had one
thing in common…the intense desire to have better facilities
to support our school-aged kids in athletics and to have
proper facilities that support the health and safety of all
people, regardless of their age, in Milford, NH.
Our fundraising campaign has involved
more than just hosting events. We’ve been approaching
businesses and organizations and asking them to support our
cause. We’ve also been soliciting in-kind services and
materials to support the actual construction.
From the beginning, we’ve been talking
about costs, comparing facilities, crunching numbers, making
signs, explaining the warrant article, standing at the dump,
voting, getting pledges, selling tickets, soliciting raffle
items, dodging balls, taking pictures, writing letters,
talking about our events, making copies, making copies,
making copies, finding sponsors, playing golf, handing out
flyers, zipping e-mails, publicizing our events, bidding on
auction items, maintaining a website, answering questions,
drawing maps, registering runners, selling merchandise,
shopping and laughing. Most importantly as we continue,
we’re spreading awareness of health and safety in our
community – all in keeping Milford on Track!
As of today, February 8, we have
raised a little over $133,000! This is amazing in just
11 months. We are over half way to our financial goal. Even
though the construction has begun and the contractors made
good progress before winter, we must continue to raise money
to fulfill our obligation. Many people are asking about a
deadline and what happens if we don’t make the $200K by that
deadline. There is no defined deadline, the availability of
funds as we move forward with the project is crucial so that
we can get the “biggest bang for our buck”.
Thank you to the Milford voters for
allowing us the opportunity to seek private funds to support
the construction of Track and Field facilities.
Thank you to everyone who is supporting
our endeavor on every level. Please continue to support us
by participating in events that we will hold in 2008
including the 2nd Annual Golf Tournament and 2nd
Annual Milford Pumpkin Festival Road Race. Please visit

about this project.
